Quick question on credit...
Moved here in November,
Opened up a secured card and I've had it/been using it for two months. I've gone through two Experian "credit report cycles" and I still have absolutely no score. Is this normal? The secured card is through my bank - Wells Fargo. Should I open up a different secured card with someone like Discover or should I just be more patient? |
Re: Quick question on credit...
Patience is required.
Building a score takes time. |
Re: Quick question on credit...
Are you also checking Transunion?
|
Re: Quick question on credit...
I think you need 6 months of history before a score can be generated.

They check experian and transunion each month and let you know how your credit score is going. It's free. I like this kind of push notification stuff, I have far too much going on to remember to check things and they remind you to request your credit reports etc. |
Re: Quick question on credit...
+1 on credit karma. Ive used it since they started.

Re: Quick question on credit...
6 months of activity with at least 1 reporting lender is required. Most lenders will report once a month.
Discover secured card is a good one to have given it has cashback. It's pretty much accepted everywhere in the US, but does have limited coverage beyond the borders. |
Re: Quick question on credit...
Wells Fargo 'forgot' to report our secured credit card for the year that we had it

Thanks all, signed up to CreditKarma and could see a score with Transunion!
Looks a very good piece of kit considering it's free! Thanks all! |

Re: Quick question on credit...
I've had two credit cards for about 8 months now, neither secured but both with low credit limits. Got a score almost instantly and it is now nearing 700. One is a credit building card, after 18 months they'll review the limit and hopefully increase it. I've already started getting unsolicited offers from other providers, hopefully a good sign.

You can also now file your taxes through them too for free (both fed and state). We tried it out this year. Better than paying money to Turbo Tax.
I guess if your return was really simple you may be okay but I hope you double checked its calculations! |

I couldn't use CreditKarma this year because it didn't support filing multiple state returns and judging by the online comments I've seen I'm glad I didn't - apparently it had loads of errors.

If you want a free full credit report, you can go to quizzle.com and also https://www.annualcreditreport.com/index.action . You get one free report from each agency per year.
