Questions for the PNWs
What major homewares stores are there, apart from Ikea and possibly Macys? We're bringing virtually nothing from the UK (apart from 1 set of bedroom furniture and 3 arcade machines) so will need to restock on electricals for the kitchen, duvets (they're called comforters aren't they?), bed linen, towels, sofas, chairs, crockery, glasses, pots and pans and other things that I don't realise I need till I go to use them and find I don't have them (like a corkscrew and a tin opener). Some of the places I've looked at online are now no longer trading and I'd like to get started on budgeting for when we arrive and maybe picking stuff up here if its cheaper.

Take a look at Bed Bath and Beyond - that will cover a lot of what you are looking for.

Yep, Bed, Bath and Beyond is a good place. Also Target sells nice housewares and electronics. Fred Meyer is pretty good too. Also, Amazon or New Egg are good online stores for electronics. A pretty good online place for bedding is overstock.com, I've found some good deals there.

You can also try Walmart (best prices), Sears, and JC Penny. If your area has it, you may to try Home Depot Expo for some nice high end products.
For appliances you may want to try Lowes and Home Depot.
For electronics you may want to try Best Buy and Frys (if available in your area).

We only brought over clothes, some kids books and toys and a few items of bedding. All furniture and electricals have been bought at Target, Walmart, Meijer, Sears, Ikea and Bed, Bath & Beyond. We got our bedroom furniture at a place called American Freight but that may only be available in Indianapolis.

Oooh Fry's! I forgot about them. If memory serves me right there's one near Renton.

Re: Questions for the PNWs
We started our journey in Oregon when we first came over and then moved up to Washington. Before and after we moved we stocked up on things in Oregon to avoid the sales tax. And when we went shopping at IKEA (of course there's an IKEA in Portland now, so you can't do this anymore) we used our (then) Oregon driver's licenses to forgo paying the sales tax in Washington..... Naughty, naughty.
