Question about our approval letter

I hope someone can help me, I have a couple of questions.

My fiance recently received our notice of approval of her petition. On the letter, about my name there was a number beginning with 'A'. We think it may be my alien registration number, but wondered if anyone could confirm this.

Also, on the form DS156 it asks for a "National Identifcation Number". The only number I can think of which is remotely like that is my national insurance number.

BTW, I come from the UK and my fiance lives in the US.

If anyone can help with these I would be most grateful. Then I can get this stuff in the post ASAP.

Re: Question about our approval letter

Hi Rick

I'm in the UK also and have submitted the packet 3 forms a week and a half ago. The 'A' number on the approval is your Alien Registration Number and on the form where it asks for National I.D. No. I wrote 'None' . I called the London Embassy last Friday and the lady I spoke to assured me that everything was in order and that they had received my forms and that I should hear about an interview date in the next 2 weeks.

Good luck!!

Your welcome Rick, I sent my forms to the Embassy 'Recorded Delivery' - you can do a trace and track for your mail on the royal mail website - just a tip for peace of mind :)

Yes, most definitely. When you enter the US on your visa, the immigration officer
should put the exact same number in your passport or on your I-94 card...check to
ENSURE that the number is THE SAME, and bring it to his attention if it is not
(because it should be). They actually put the wrong a-number in my husband's
passport and we had to get it corrected at the local INS office..the officer
commented that it was a good thing that we caught it, as he said it could have
caused problems later on.

I am not a lawyer and this is not immigration advice. This is my personal opinion,
gleaned from the previous postings of others, and posted for the purpose of
discussion only. If your case is complicated, then you may need an immigration
attorney. Locate an immigration attorney in your area at: http://www.aila.org

Thanks for your help Alvena :)

I will be sure to keep and eye out for that.

I have now posted off my documents, so hopefully I should hear back from them soon (soon, of course, being a relative term).
