Lies pertain to fact, so by definition a moral argument can't be a lie. You seem to think that using strong language in your posts will either scare people off or make your argument more convincing.

I don't think anyone would dispute the facts you stated regarding how high credit card interest is, or how much huge corporations own. That doesn't mean we're not allowed to disagree with your moral viewpoint (oh, sorry, I meant "moral lesson" - you see, there's no difference between your posts and mine in that regard; you're trying to teach me your morals too).

Like I said before, I do believe there are times when an individual has to declare insolvency, or renege on a debt they owe, simply because there's no way they can pay all of it back. But I disagree with the idea that, just because a company makes huge profits, that gives anyone the moral highground to absolve themselves of their responsibility to behave in an unselfish way, especially if they are capable of paying back their debt. Clearly we disagree on that moral point. Doesn't make either one of us a liar.

Besides a great credit record is not the be all and end all of life you know.

Six years is a long time, did you anticipate being over here six years ago? And while good credit isn't everything it really helps, ask the people on here who are struggling to get any sort of credit in the US!

I don't care THAT much about what you have to say! Why do you have to be so defensive? It's hard to believe you're a professional when I read how you react towards people who disagree with you. It's one thing disagreeing strongly with someone, but do you really have to be sarcastic or use the sort of language you do in order to get your point across?

There I go moralizing again....

not paying rip off loan sharks

My wife took out a personal loan for £7,000 pounds a 2 years ago and has been making payments ontime. She and i have had to pay out thousands of pounds for the immigration process and now that we have found out that these loan shark assholes will not even give us credit in the USA. They can piss off.... Also, they have charged my wife over £3,000 pounds in what they call credit protection plan. The only way they would borrow her the money is if she signed up for it. We were not married when this took place or she would have never taken out such a scam of a loan. She will be living with me in the USA and NO we won't be paying them ass holes back and there is nothing they can do about it. We asked for them to drop the credit protction charge of £3,000 pounds and they declined so they can piss off. Anyone think they can do anything about it state what you think. P.S all immigration paper work is done so we don't need any immigration advice. Thanks Joe;)

You're posting like a troll. Your message only portrays yourself and your now wife as fools for getting "stitched up" by some two bit lenders....

Re: Question about moving to US with debt...

Hello. This is my first post. I am an American citizen living in England with my English husband and our son. I have lived here for 2 years, and we are looking to move back to the US some time next summer/fall. We know all about the process (well, I do anyway, that sort of thing is my job!) and would be doing a Direct Consular Filing in London, probably through a lawyer.

Here's a question that keeps coming up though, with my husband and I. We've got a small amount of debt here in England, nothing even close to being huge. We want to move back to the US, but think that it's probbaly impossible with *any* amount of debt, since we'd have to pay it back while in the US and suffer because of the exchange rate.

Has any one else moved to the US with debt, and how did they find a good way to pay it in the US? We were thinking of just keeping our UK bank accounts and paying into it (and thereby direct debits) through our US bank. With a very, very small child between us, we're not hoping to get our debt down by much over here before we move, which is causing a kind of roadblock in our plans.

Other experiences & insight woud be helpful.
Thanks in advance. :)
If you or your son have any intention of ever living in the UK at any time in the future (after living in the US), you would probably do well to pay off your debt before you leave the UK. Otherwise, should the debt remain and you return to live in the UK, the lenders could come after you or at the very least you'd be blacklisted and have a really crappy credit report.

If this is not possible, you could make arrangements with the lender to pay them back even when you're living in the US. You could keep a British current account open for the purposes of making payments in Sterling.

My personal experience of debt is that I had a little over L2K of student loan debt prior to moving to the US. I paid it all back before even getting my US visa. I wanted to start my new life with a clean slate and a clean conscience.

What you do is your own business but I'd thought I'd share my thoughts.
