Queen Mary II screws Florida OAP out of $1 million
Onboard the Queen Mary 2 in February, Owen Schwam was doing great answering questions on "Who Wants to be A Cunard Zillionaire."
The last one was multiple choice: how many novels did Anthony Trollope write -- 43, 45, 47 or 49? Schwam guessed 47.
The emcee said he was wrong about the 19th Century British author, so no big payoff. Turns out he was right, Schwam claimed in a federal court suit seeking a million-dollar prize.
When the retired general building contractor from Boca Raton returned to his cabin, he had a message from another passenger that 47 was correct, according to Schwam and the suit filed last month in West Palm Beach. The answer also was confirmed through Internet research, the suit says.
When the emcee was told Schwam's answer was right, the emcee "advised the Plaintiff that the Defendants 'never had any intention of paying,' " the suit says. The host also told Schwam that Cunard had insurance in case anyone won.
