My dream is to join the police though. I was transferring to RMP before my other half moved back to the US, so I stopped that process to move over...

My original plan was to be a grease monkey for a few years until I got to grips with the US way of life... Then try out for the police.
You will find that once you're in the USA and have work authorization, your options will be much better. You might have to wait until you're a USC in order to be on the police force.

For the first few months in the USA after arriving on the K-1 visa, you'll just have to research what jobs are in your area, until you have the EAD in hand and can actually work.

Thinking about it, I suppose you could say I specialise in Diesel.
Not electric or hybrid but still very different from a country that (from what I saw when I was there) uses Gas in everything... Diesel was only in large trucks.

I was amazed even the big SUVs and trucks are gas.... Here in the UK we wouldnt dream of running something so large on petrol!

Cory and I have spent some more time looking around and researching... We are leaning more towards getting married before I move over now...
Partly because I would like to still be in the military when I marry.. Which I think she likes the idea of as well as she has a military background in her family.

However, we still have time. I will continue researching!

Thankyou all for your help so far

If that's the case, you'll need to research the CR-1 Immigrant Visa. I refer you to the US Marriage-Based visa forum for that.

How old are you?

My son-in-law was a corrections officer and wanted to move into police work, but there was too much competition for the few available openings in his state (NJ) and he aged-out at 35 without getting a spot. (Now he's a high school history and civics teacher - I wonder which of the 3 jobs is the more difficult and risky?)

Im am currently 23... will be 24 or just 25 when I move over.
However currently being in the military I see that as an advantage... I am already operationally aware, weapons trained, fit and combat proven. And with my huge love of police forces if im not top of class ay everything id do id be disappointed in myself..

Maybe if your goal is to be on a SWAT team. Otherwise, a college degree in criminal justice, public admininstration, or psychology will open more doors for you.

A K-1 is employment authorized incident to status, but that is not sufficient for an employer to hire them.

Without an employment authorization document it's more than difficult, it's impossible. (Unless the employer is willing to break the law.) And a K-1 visa in a passport is not an acceptable EAD.

We are exploring the CR-1 route now over the K-1.

SWAT is not my main goal, I just want to be a good policeman. Which I would say experience, a good nature and common sense will help with..

In which case I would suggest that the military qualifications for killing people that you listed in a previous post will not be very helpful, and if you emphasize them may even be detrimental. Be careful how you present yourself and frame your qualifications.

Hahah I didnt mean like that. I mean I can work well under pressure and keep a level head when under stress. . Regardless of the situation.
That said if I had the opportunity to go SWAT I probably wouldnt turn it down... its what I know.. but I dont go actively seeking combat id like to resolve it peacefully if possible. But then I suppose SWATs the last resort when peaceful means have failed. Hmmm.
Id like a break from the constant training. I know id have to wait around 2 years before going SWAT anyway... after those 2 years if I miss it... its like being a civilan soldier!
well more on that when the time comes.. Thank you for pointing out that I might put myself across wrong. I will think about my wording in the future!

Hahaha... I didnt mean actual soldier.
I mean being SWAT would be more of a military lifestyle with the constant weapons training tactics training and exercises... but still being a civilian.
