Puppy(or dog) house training
For those that have house trained a puppy, or any age dog for that matter. Roughly how long did it take?. We have a four and a half month old Basset which we got saturday and she already does really well at night, where we have gone four straight days without a new stain on the carpet!. But she has a little problem every now and again during the day, even while we are home and letting her out often. I do know that Bassets are notoriously stubbon though and difficult to train. So I was just wondering about others experiences.

Little accidents will happen but dont stress as this will make her worse just say a firm "no" and put her outside (please dont be the sort who rubs their nose in it) she will soon get the message and wont forget. The window for training is usually the first 12 weeks which is for toilet training (to be done quicker) and socialising, as you have had her after that it will take a bit longer for these things. Keep up the good work and enjoy your pup.

Re: Puppy(or dog) house training
Our pug was reliably housebroken by about 4 months of living with us, with an accident there or there. I've read basset hounds take a little longer to housebreak, so it might be longer than 4-6 months.
Someone told me whenever their puppy began to poo inside the house, they'd pick them up immediately saying something like "Alfie go potty outside" and the pup finished outside. She'd say this every time she took the puppy out so the dog associated it with the act of going outside. Also, being carried/taken outside every time it started to "go" helped to make the connection.
It might help too, to have a set schedule (same times every day) that the dog gets used to. When you take it out to go potty, don't go back inside (if possible) until he/she does their business. Again, using a command like "go potty" or "get busy" (that one cracks me up ), will help them understand that's why you brought them out.
Good luck!
