Amtrak, Greyhound or NASA?
If you are really adventurous, try a Bus line.

Detroit is the center of the US auto industry (such that it is, these days). As a result, it's very car-centric. I wouldn't count on taking public transport too much. Here's a blurb from Travelocity.

search local public transport, or whatever they call the local service will get you time tables etc....I mean how did you find this info in blighty? Exactly the same thing here...that's if there is any public transport.

You can start by finding the website of the State/County/City you are living in and looking for their link to the 'Department of Transportation'. Often times the public transit systems are under the authority of the DoT, or you can find links from the DoT website to the local public transit.

Many areas have some limited form of public transit, but it is extremely limited. In many areas the public transit is nothing more than a small bus that drives a ridiculous route in an effort to pick up as many people who have lost their drivers licenses via DUI busts so they can still get to work. But in many cities you're really on your own.
