I didn't propose in the US. Debs came to visit me in the UK for 2 weeks and I arranged a short trip to Paris for us on the Eurostar. I had been working it all out in my head for months... had the ring etc. We did the typical sightseeing stuff the day we arrived and went out for a wonderful traditional french meal that night. After dinner I said we should go and see the eiffel tower all lit up at night, my plan being to pop the question somewhere between the resteraunt and the tower itself (Debs had told me that if and when I was to propose it shouldn't be in a hugely public spot !!). So we're walking and I'm looking for somewhere in the park near the tower but it was a lovely warm summer evening and the place was PACKED !! realizing that this was not the best spot to get down on bended knee I suggested we walk down by the river away from the crowds. I had no idea if the riverbank would be full of people too but luckily as we started down the the steps I could see it was pretty much deserted. We sat on the steps next to the water with an illuminated Eiffel tower above us and that was when I took the box out of my pocket, knelt on the step below the one we were sitting on, and asked her to marry me. She welled up, I slid the ring onto her finger and then she said yes !!

She had some inkling that I would propose during her visit but had NO idea that I had the ring with me (hidden in a pringles box in our room !!). We've been married almost a year now so I'm pretty happy with how things panned out after our trip to Paris !!

I was in the US on an L1 visa, and we'd already discussed getting married but we knew we had to wait until Joy finished her MBA (that she was doing part time). She knew I had bought a ring because we'd seen some that she wanted and they were on sale but she also thought I wasn't going to actually do anything about it for about 6 months. In the meantime I got the ring sized, and bought a matching bracelet. We went to England for Christmas that year (2003), as I was heading to the airport to meet up with her after work I called her father and asked his permission. We spent a couple of days in London before heading to my parents for Christmas. I hadn't planned on where or when I was going to ask but we arrived on the Saturday and were just wandering around and I just couldn't wait any longer - we were outside Harrods and I just stopped her in the street and handed her a ring box. She was shocked, but then confused when she opened the box and inside was a bracelet. Then I popped the question as I pulled the ring out of my pocket.

I'd discussed proposing to my wife over the net before we'd even met in person and we were both certain I'd propose in person, when I visited her for the first time we went to look at rings and bought one, I said she couldn't wear it until I'd proposed and she said she could as she was taking it out the box on the way out of the jewellers so I just asked her to marry me before she could get it on her finger, she said yes and we got married the next week even though we were planning on a very long engagement

I never have had, and still don't have, an engagement ring.

I DO have a wedding ring.

Don't worry, only your husband is missing out - on a large credit card bill.

No I didn't get an engagement ring either, still don't have one and we've been married nearly 5 years.
