Yes it will. But you'll probably have to pay BT to expand into the USA, and move some of their digital equipment and network over here. This will be costly, probably a couple of million at least.
By contrast, a bog standard cordless phone from Radioshack costs about $10

Alternately you could just go without a phone, tell the phone companies that you are a bit of a muppet and don't really know how to work them.

Well I kind of thought it was a stupid question, but thought I would check before letting my brother walk off with £200 worth of telephone equipment!

Nope, ordinary BT digital cordless phone - but I have three hand sets that's why it cost £200.

BT cordless phones work fine in the US (well, as well as they ever did in the UK at any rate - which IME is not very well at all! )
