That LCY-JFK route isn't really accurate, since you have to splash and dash for an hour in SNN.

I think it was a bit of a fluke. It doesn't include a Saturday night away as such, although it does mean a Saturday night red-eye.

I found it through www.hipmunk.com.

I commute. Sometimes I take two return trips a month, other times it's less frequent.

I am very bad for the environment!

not sure what you mean by accurate, its the same fare as a standard CW flight ex LHR but the service is much better. A max of 32 passengers... 3 cc...good treatment

PLUS you clear immigration during the Shannon stop( was actually 45 mins last time) so big saving the other end. I have a connection down to Sarasota 45 mins after landing at JFK and should be home earlier than any direct flight

It can be VERY difficult at times. I simply try to go with the flow, make sure my cupboards and fridge is full, have plenty of diet coke, and the occasional power nap when I can.

I also dont make any arrangements for the night that I arrive in SAN, not the next evening.

Occasional melatonin or similar helps

It's not accurate because it ISN'T direct!

Just spent 5 weeks in the UK and a good week trying to get over jet lag... It was the worst it's ever been for me, of course I came home to not doing anything in particular, didn't have a job to go back to, so maybe that was why it was so hard. But it just made me think of you when I read that you commute.

I dunno about MCO but they are still flying B747-400's from MIA-LHR. Was on one in May. At least it's a direct flight and it had an upgraded VOD system.

The internal noise difference between the -400 and the new -800 is BIG. I jumpseated on Atlas's B747-8F's last summer to STN and that was much quieter than their older -4F's.

When I travel to the UK, I don't have a lot of trouble. it takes a week for the effects either way to wear off, but working from home helps. When I get home from the UK, I will wake up at 2 in the morning, go to work at 7, come home at 4, and sleep at 7. Then I'll wake up at 3, work 7-4, sleep at 8. I do this until I am waking up at 5 and going to bed at 10. Going TO the UK, I have to just tough it out, but everyone understands.

The only time I really had serious trouble was when I was teaching a training class in Germany, and was so jet lagged I literally fell asleep while standing at the front of the room talking. I was only "out" for a few seconds, and woke to a room full of bewildered faces. I played the last few seconds back in my mind and discovered I had started talking about chickens in a class dedicated to IT software. Students told me afterward that for a minute they were wondering if they forgot their English.

I'm hoping there's an LAX-BHX direct flight available next year when Birmingham's runway expansion is finished. That will be sweet for me, as my family are right by the airport.
