Those are definitely scary prices! Would love to fly that way some day, especially when you're flying home and you feel done! But then you soon forget and figure you can do cattle class again.

Prices have risen sharply in the last year, never mind last few years. I was paying $750 for my then fiancée to visit me flying SFO to LHR. Now the same route starts at $1100!!!

I assume they make money by pretending the price is really low then adding on fees to make up for it.

Just paid GBP650 each for Heathrow to Houston next week. Seem to recall a couple of years ago it was in the 400 range Afraid it's United, BA were £120 more. Continental weren't brilliant but United are dire. The flight we did in June they only had the movies that were rolling on their system, you either watched it when it was on or joined it halfway through, I think they are using older aircraft, Contintental used to offer loads, as and when you wanted it.

Mind you better than an American flight we did a couple of years ago into Chicago from London, they still had the screen that was in overhead lockers and showing one crap movie!

Look for flights using 777s.

Jim.

AIrlines rarely make any money from cattle class, the premium services are the bread and butter. You might pay $48, but the person in business forked over $4k.

The times we wanted, the aircraft is a 767-300 so not sure what we'll get. Will just load the ipad up prior to flying

We may moan at cattle class, but unless we were absolutely loaded, I wouldn't waste my money on business, I would rather have the money to spend on a nice hotel or meals/shopping etc That's what my hubby used to say; would you rather travel business or spend 14 nights in a top class hotel? No contest really!

Most 763s are still the in ceiling displays, especially if you get a domestic configuration aircraft. The international configs have AVOD.

Oh I agree completely. I usually pay the $60 to upgrade to Deltas premium eco service due to the early bording and more legroom, but I'd never fly J.

LHR has some of the highest landing fees. If you can look to some of the regional airports like Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol.

Likewise on the US side for example NY airports have higher fees, try Philadelphia if you can.

Just did LAX to LHR on a new AA jet (no idea which model) and it was great. Decent seats and legroom, big screens in the seat-back with tons of choice and the food was actually pretty digestible. Would definitely use them again though I do miss the days when someone else would pay for my bus class flights.

I agree. The issue for me is that I get to fly to London in business class for work and then going into cattle class for personal use is a bit of a shock to the system. The up side is that our son seems immune to sleep when we fly so between us we spend most of the flight walking up and down with him or trying to keep him entertained and wouldn't be enjoying the benefits of business class in any case!

Unfortunately, my Mum lives 25 mins from Heathrow so it doesn't make sense for us to fly elsewhere.

We're going over (ATL-LHR) next month and it was just under $1100 each. Last time I flew was Christmas 2011 and it was around $750.

This time, it's Air Canada via Toronto, which I hear is a very civilized way to travel - 767 going and 777 coming back, plus smaller planes for the atl-tor leg. I understand even the smaller planes have AVOD.

Of course I've had notifications of cheaper flights since I booked, but still no more than $100 less. Too late to do anything about it now.

It is, but I flew through that way at Christmas last year and Air Canada's computer automatically bumped me off the 2nd flight although I had a boarding pass in hand and was at the Toronto gate 45 minutes beforehand - automatically assumed I would miss the connection! Much begging, pleading and luck got me onto the last flight out.
