I haven't filled up with gas for a week now but I know that the gas prices in my part of NC are amongst the highest in the country. I just checked Gasbuddy and the site bears this out. Regular gas is $3.59 per gallon at my local gas stations.

I shall be in neighboring Orange and Wake counties later today and will see how their gas prices compare to Durham.

BTW Bob the system really does suck doesn't it? :curse:
tell me about it

It's weird how it's so pricey in Maine, I know the oil has further to travel, but poorer state and all that, such huge variation in price.

Oil companies have dumping grounds to get rid of excess gasoline production. It drives the price down in that area but it keeps the other areas higher. In the 1960s, Oklahoma what the main dumping area and prices there was about 60% of the national average. Another area at that time was Minneapolis but that was a secondary dumping ground so prices weren't as low.

Another problem is how people perceive gasoline in different ways in different areas. In California, many people will only purchase a major brands of gasoline and therefore the price for major brands are 10-20 cent higher than a discount brand. In Minnesota, most people purchase the cheapest gas around (brand or lack of brand name doesn't make a difference) and therefore the price between all brands including discount brands are less than 1-2 cents and keeping prices down.

University & Oakland Pk VALERO: Just paid, $2.99 for Regular "Cash only". They are charging $3.15 for cc.
Still think we are being ripped off, should be $2.50.
Oil goes up real quick, comes down real slowwwwwww!
Seen Gas stations in Miami still charging, $3.79 low test.

It was $3.09 here, though this town is very slow at dropping it's prices, where my son's doctor is gas was $3.18 last Friday when it was still $3.60 here for a few days after so no idea how much it will be there now. If it gets much cheaper I may have to insure my van again and start using it

apparently there's a place for $2.95 around, but I've not seen it...most are finally getting into $2.99 or just a bit over now, which is nice.

When I arrived June 07 it was $2.99. It dropped to $2.75 and I congratulated myself on my purchase of a 20mpg Honda Odyssey.

Then it went up...

I remember seeing gas for 99c a gallon in Georgia in Nov 1999, and I think when I lived in Ohio in 1991 it was about 57c a gallon?
