= $4.33/gal US .... If you can find a "full service" pump here you pay extra, at least an extra 25c. Of course if you live in New Jersey or Oregon, pumping your own petrol is generally prohibited.

Managed to find a Shell station at $1.96. The range of gas prices locally seems to be $1.92 to $2.03.

I use Shell since I get 15c per gallon discount at the pump (thanks T-Mobile), and 10c per gallon on my Shell credit card.

Every gas station around here has a man or lady that pumps had for you. 🤪

I refuse to use Shell on principle. Their sign boards usually advertise a competitive price, although never the cheapest, but it's not until you've gassed up that you realise the advertised price has a miniscule 'with car wash' disclaimer and you've just paid a further 20c on that price, they'll only catch me once! As you are in the neighbouring county I can't imagine their policy being any different which means you've probably just paid the same as at a cheap station once you've applied your discounts.

The price I pay at the pump (before discounts) is the price on the forecourt sign. I've not seen any bait and switch prices, although there are a couple of gas stations I avoid, since their sign shows the cash price (labelled), and credit card price is of course more expensive. These stations don't seem to accept my discounts either, so probably franchise who set their own rules.

I tend to avoid those dual cash/card price places as well, there aren't too many of them round here so it's not an issue I have to deal with on a daily basis. With the Shell boards, I figure that if franchisees can't advertise the actual, pre-gimmick, pump price and Shell are happy to let the practise continue then I will continue to not use them. At least the cash/card price places have the decency to clearly tell you what price you are paying.
I'm not a gas snob so will use any station that offers a locally competitive price and when I see the price for regular gas advertised on the kerbside board I expect that to be the pump price, there is usually enough going on on the roads not to have the time or inclination to be looking out for small print attached to that price.
Shell , in my mind, seems to make a habit of misdirecting their customers. When their max or supermax, or whatever it is called, gas hit the pumps in the UK they supplied two options for regular octane gas at the same pump. I didn't realise this was a thing and filled up with the 'superior' stuff, the price difference was enough for me to think WTF and why was that not more clearly marked. That must have been nearly twenty years ago and it still sticks in my gullet, little else has the same affect. You advertise 93 octane at x price I expect the 93 octane at the pump to be that price. Rant over.

It's running about 1.15 per liter CAD$ (about 85 cents US$ per liter)

COVID is keeping has prices lower this summer, a nice break from usual summers.

Noticed more than a few places this evening are now at $1.919 and one at $1.879, did I miss hearing about some movement in the stock market/oil industry/politics, etc that's responsible for knocking the crud out of gas prices?

I only know of one major brand of petrol that has caused damage to car engines, and that brand would be Shell. What is remarkable though is that this has happened on three distinct occasions: with Formula Shell in 1986 in the UK and several other countries, with "Bronze" in Canada in 2002, and with manganese added to their petrol in Pakistan and several other countries in Asia in 2017.

Therefore I refuse to by Shell gas under all but the most dire circumstances!
