Price of gas update...

Re: Price of gas update...
Some of the better stations selling at $2.549 today. And just as I'm thinking 'nice one' the silly bint on the radio says that it won't last long because the refineries are about to put out the summer blend which is pricier.
I'm not sure how many of their listeners have the memory retention of a goldfish ( probably quite a few as it's a country station, I only have it on occasionally because they have the best local traffic updates) but I seem to recall they spouted the same 'pricier summer blend' excuse for the first of the large jumps several weeks back...

Re: Price of gas update...
There is often a hiccough in prices in spring and autumn because the switch between summer and winter blend means that the refineries are off-line for about a week, so the supply of refined gas is substantially reduced, and reduced supply causes the market price to rise. I guess that the refineries don't all do it the same week so there isn't a complete fuel drought for a week, but the prices seem to increase for 2-3 weeks.

Re: Price of gas update...
It went down yesterday to 1.55 liter, but today back up in the 1.65 per liter range with a few stations and expectation to hit 1.69 tomorrow.
27 hours worth of pre-tax salary per month just to get to/from work (gas + insurance per month.) crazy really.

Prices are all over the place here this week. The area that is generally (for perhaps ten months of the year) the most expensive, by and average of around 15c/gal, so not a small margin, has held steady since last week. However the area that is usually cheapest has leapt by 6c/gal, and so is not currently the cheapest, and the town which has generally has had some of the lowest prices for the entire time we have lived here (which probably has something to do with the local economy being in the toilet), now has prices almost as high as prices in Charlotte, NC.
In short, prices are in the range $2.4999, or occasionally a cent or two less for cheapo brands, to $2.6599.

Blaine, WA which is right at the border, between 3.45 & 3.99 per gallon.
At 3.45 a gallon, once exchange rate is accounted for, about 50 cents per liter cheaper.
If one lives on the border, crosses off peak, really no down side to crossing over for gas. For a Mazda 2 near empty, could save $20 per tank, a larger truck, or SUV is saving decent coin by crossing.
