I was wondering the same thing? Is it like Australia with min. wage of $18 bucks an hour! YIKES
Our gas dropped to $2.73 and the cheapest was $2.39 and oil dropped it went back to $2.50 go figure. That's at costco and walmart.
Everyone else is $2.70+
East cost is way below $2.00 Arizona used to be like the east coast prices. Now were getting like CALI.

Ours comes to $5.16 CAD$ per gallon at the moment.

Wages are a little higher vs the US but not high enough to offset the high cost of goods and services really.

Min wage in BC is only $12.65/hr ($9.31 USD$ at current exchange rate.) Median family income is around 76,000/yr (less for singles) (or 55,000 USD per year at current exchange rate.)

Currently $2.04 in my part of Florida.

On a trip to Blighty before Christmas I paid £1.30/liter. That works out to $6.25/US gallon.

Taking UK pricing and exchange rates into account, I calculated my V8 truck gets the equivalent of 75mpg.

It is what it is. No choice & for us , no public transport.

NZ minimum wage is $10 USD per hour. Husband earns $20USD ph.

NZ State pension approx $205 USD per week.

I believe that petrol prices in the UK are more expensive than for NZ.

Perhaps the USA price is artificially low in some way.

The US price is not artificially low. It's just not taxed like it is in other countries.

In the UK, 64.6% of the pump price is tax.

I think the price of gas is more based on tax than oil costs in countries that are a lot more expensive than US. We also have a lot of tax but being an international comodity oil & gas should be similar in price if not for tax. Canada for example is a large oil producer but has very high prices compared to US. When I was a teenager getting three gallons for a dollar was easy but with inflation current prices of less that two dollars a gallon is probably as cheap.

We pay sales tax on fuel in the same way we pay sales tax on a pair of shoes. Sales tax varies by state, county and (sometimes) city. Where I live, I pay 7% (6% state + 1% county). Across the county line, they pay 7.5%.

The difference is the government don't add some arbitrary tax on top. Another point in the UK that has always bugged me is you pay 20% VAT on the fuel duty!

ETA: I stand corrected. The county add 12c per gallon tax.

Well, this is getting worse...

They DO add arbitrary taxes. Currently 18.4c per gallon Federal tax, plus state tax AND county tax. so, 18.4c (federal) + 36.8c (state) + 12c (county) for a whopping 67.2c per gallon.

Still better than $3.74/gallon in the UK.

Those state taxes vary a lot among states and accounts for a large portion of the variations you see around the country.

You would think countries would realize what a drag exorbitant gas prices have on their economy. Especially in large countries like Canada. If American politicians tried to triple our gas prices thru taxation they might as well pack up and go home and find a real job.

$20/hr USD would be a decent wage in Canada, is it a decent wage in NZ?

$20 US is about 27 CAD$.
