It used to be that both Lincoln and Washington had individual holidays. Congress decided to combine them into one, along with any other Presidents that may be determined worthy.

To "make room", IIRC, for MLK, so as not to add an extra holiday to the calendar.

And here in BC, they made up a holiday because we went too long without one from New Years to Good Friday.

Now we have:

Jan New Years Day

Feb Family Day

Mar/Apr Good Friday (this one obviously changes months year to year)

Victoria Day May 18

Canada Day July 1

BC Day Aug 3

Labor Day Sept 7

Thanksgiving October

Remembrance Day November

Christmas December

These are just for BC, some are nationwide with the same name, others are provincial specific to BC.

Really only Christmas see's the entire place shut down, the rest of the holidays being observed outside of government, banks, vary.

Nothing closes for Labor Day for example for the most part.

Other provinces though have laws that force some business types to shut down on certain holidays, but BC doesn't, companies can operate holidays if they so desire. But we do get extra pay on holidays.

Lucky.

It's probably close to being under $3.00 in Wisconsin, right enough, but close as it is, it's still too far out of my way to make the maths work.

Crude is in a free fall and it will take time for gas at the pump to reflect crude prices. Brent is down another $2 today and is now only about $2 above WTI.

I know. I'm being impatient. It has fallen about 10c in the last week though, which is nice.

I wish they'd just set it at $2.50 and leave it alone. ****ing oil company cock suckers.

But you can look forward to when crude rises again and then gas at the pump will rise immediately.

Hence the insult.

I refuse to believe that those twats wouldn't make money even if it were still under $3.00/gallon. The only people who don't make money from sales of petrol are owners of petrol stations. That's why they all sell fags and firewood as well

Down to $3.27 here, thinking they are keeping it higher because of the leaf peepers.

The following is a map of gas taxes by state. The figures include all taxes including sales taxes. However most states reduce the sales tax for gasoline such as California has a 2.25% sales tax and Washington state has a 0% sales tax on gasoline. California has the highest taxes at about $0.68 per gallon. Average tax is about $0.49 per gallon.

Gasoline Tax

For Europe, the full VAT tax is normally calculated after the cost of fuel is added to the excise tax which typically adds at least $0.25 per liter to the price of gas.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuel_tax
United Kingdom

From 23 March 2011 the UK duty rate for the road fuels unleaded petrol, diesel, biodiesel and bioethanol is GB£0.5795 per litre (£2.63 per imperial gallon or £2.19 per U.S. gallon). Value Added Tax at 20% is also charged on the price of the fuel and on the duty.
