Recession averted = higher gas prices?

I'm not sure I entirely agree with this article however there might be some truth in it. My wife just got hired for the Christmas season with Victoria's Secret, part time of course but she has no previous retail experience. They are opening a new store nearby.

Still 3.35 here, an increase of 10c in one jump 10 days or so, ago.

Hard to see how the economy can get moving at all while the oil companies are holding the country to ransom, and in turn contributing to the increase prices of everything else. I suppose the $10.3 Billion profit that Exon made in the second quarter wasn't quite enough for them?

We were down to $3.02 on Monday last week, but then up to $3.35 on Friday. Today, it's $3.29. Our local station gives a 6-cent discount if you use their rewards card... which, of course, we do.

The gas stations east of Yosemite close to the entrance at Tioga Pass were charging up to $5 for regular earlier this week...

I wonder if anything interesting would come of a similar thread posted in the lounge for worldwide input? After the two pages of arguing over currency and measurement conversion calculations are completed to satisfaction and everyone runs out of insults I mean.
Oh, $3.24 here.
