$3.13 for regular at a BP station I went to in NJ today.
I heard on the TV news last night that another reason for the hike in prices is for 'seasonal adjustment'. Apparently at this time of year the fuel mixture is being changed from Winter grade to Summer grade and this has a bearing on prices.
Does anyone know why there is a Winter grade and Summer grade fuel? (I don't need/want to know about the technical details, but are there special additives in the Winter grade to stop the fuel from freezing? Then again I would have thought it would make it more expensive...?)

Re: Price of gas update...
Its not so much to do with freezing in the winter, as controlling emissions in the summer. The Reid Vapor Pressure requirements for gasoline are stricter in summer to try to reduce emissions and smog. RVP is basically the rate at which the gasoline evaporates - the requirements vary from state to state, but most need it below 9ish for summer grade. In the winter, when gas can have a higher RVP (12ish in most states from what I remember, but never over 14 or your gas tank could pop!), the refiners can add more butane in as a blendstock. Butane is cheap, but has a very high RVP (50+). In the summer, they can't use so much butane, so the price goes up.

The price of Brent crude is about $15 per barrel above NYMEX crude so the prices in Europe have gone up even worse than the US.
For example, the current price of unleaded regular gasoline in the UK now averages 129.85p per liter or about $7.85 per US gallon.

There's an ongoing thread that compares prices across the country; I've only recently started reading it after local prices jumped from $3.14 to $3.42 in slightly over a week. Incredible, and probably nowhere near the end.
