For the other couple of months, the price differential reverses. I have never noticed a pattern, or any rational explanation for the difference, and it can be for as little as a couple of weeks at a time, and sometimes more than a month.

Imperial gallons make gas seem more expensive, but one gets better mileage. My 1967 Sunbeam was calibrated in gallons and it took me a while to figure out why it was so โinaccurate.โ

It was $1.899 at the weekend, but was down to $1.839 yesterday when I went to get gas for my chainsaw.
We seem to be heading for record low prices locally as the lowest it got in the spring, IIRC, was around $1.789. Prior to that I guess it was probably 2004 since we last saw gas prices lower than that.
