I don't find such discounts to be particularly common here in British Columbia, can't really recall them being super common in So. California either, but maybe the stores I shop/shopped at don't participate in such promotions.

Superstore had one here back in the 90's, coupon in the weekly flyer gave you a good discount if you bought 30L+ and gas was already cheap then. I scavanged every coupon I could.

We're ranging $2.07G to $2.17G around town.

I remember when Super Store would give you a receipt after getting gas that could be used in store for discount on groceries when I first arrived in Canada, but don't know if they still do. Safeway sometimes would have a promo buy X amount get X amount at Shell, but I never shop at Safeway since they are rather expensive.

Stations also did this whole save 3.5 cents off the sign thing when I first moved to BC, I was always like why don't they just lower the price on the sign 3.5 cents? Guess it was a way to get people to think they were saving money.

When I worked in Abbotsford, BC and the dollar was near par, my savings was crossing the border into Sumas, WA to get gas, quite the savings back then when $1 CAD got you nearly $1 US

The irony of the Kroger-BP gas promo is that we already did most of our grocery shopping at Kroger, espcially the fruit, vegetables, and meat, and we pretty much only buy BP gas so the promo is just cash into our pocket - typically 35 gallons per month at a discount of 40¢-50¢, but sometimes more. Under the current cornoavirus conditions I think I have only bought ten non-discounted gallons of gas since early March.

Winn Dixie offers the discount on gas with their card but it is at Shell stations which is always the highest priced gas locally. We don't shop all that much so my discount is only perhaps 5 of 7 cents per gallon. Last week, I filled up at $1.54 a gallon.

Now, if you use one of their pumps, swipe your PC Optimum card and it credits your account with points same as if you'd purchased groceries. If you use their credit card they give you more. Our discount stations are still cheaper, so I only use the Superstore/Loblaws gas when I'm travelling.

There just isn't a convenient superstore to us, so we use Shell or Petro Canada usually since both are right off E Hastings, and Super Store is now Mobil and seems to have a bit of a premium, Costco is probably cheapest but the Vancouver Costco doesn't sell gas. The super save gas is usually 1 penny less than the Shell across the street, funny how people will line up at Super Save to save 1 cent per liter, really none of the compete, they all price within 1-2 cents of one another usually.

In Redmond, WA, Costco today is $2.49, and just down the road, Shell is $2.99. I don't understand how the Shell garage stays in business.

My father used to drive a couple of miles to save 1p-2p per gallon, when his car's tank only held about 13 gallons, and he had undoubtedly spent more on the petrol to drive there and back than he saved on the petrol he bought. .... It somewhat influenced me because I have almost never driven anywhere "to buy gas", I always plan ahead and I buy has when I am passing a gas station that sells gas at the lowest price in the area, whichever area I am driving in that day/week.

I buy gas near my house usually, its easier all around. When I was commuting for work, I could get through the entire 4 day work week without needing to fill up, so I'd just get gas near home the night before my first day back, and that tank would last 7 days, likely longer, but eh once a week fill is what I did.

A 1 cent savings if our car was completely empty, would save us a whopping 42 cents, but of course the tank is never from completely empty, so actually savings would be even less.

Cumbies is still generally the cheapest in town, with their card thing it's $2.17G.

Across town though, BJ's is $1.89G but $1.79 if you have their mastercard, and it's even cheaper if you buy certain products before you fill up.

Everywhere else is up around $2.27-37G for the cheap stuff.

Currently around $2.069 locally at the moment, and up around 15¢-20¢ from a coiuple of week ago. I saw some around $1.959 - $1.999 the other day on the way home.

I am on track for a discount courtesy of Kroger of around 60¢/gal on upto 35 gallons before the end of the month, but I am not sure whether to top-off the tanks when we have used so little this month. I have used the Kroger discount for all the gas we have bought since March, except for the gas that goes in the mowers, so I have been paying less than $1.50/gal since last March.

I was just thinking about this thread earlier. Gas at the cheaper stations has been dropping for a little while now and finally went under $2 today, $1.999 at a few, this afternoon I did spot $1.979 for cash.

My local is at $1.76. Gets more expensive in town. Usually 20-30c more with some as much as $2.29.
