Price of gas update...

Re: Price of gas update...
I'm desperately trying not to think/convert UK prices into dollars. I can say that it's about 50 quid to fill this poxy 1litre engined Ford Focus, which for all the gas economy hype, only returns about 37MPG (using UKGallons not US). I feel a little cheated when I consider that my scabby old '94 Citroen (my last UK vehicle, prior to 2010) returned a solid 50mpg despite the fact that I 'worked' it hard!

$2.70 here in the great Northwest, a lack of local refineries plays a part. Such as zero refineries in Oregon and zero planned in the next 100 years. Same with new refineries in California and Washington. The current refineries are making a killing, example #1 your post.

I wonder how many more price cuts there will be before I fill up at the weekend?

Another station that was $2.089 last weekend, and is usually among the most expensive BP stations of the ones I use (when I need gas in that area) has slashed the price to $1.999, matching the cheapest that I know of in the area.

Here was I getting all excited that my first fill up back in the States was going to be considerably cheaper than three weeks ago but my local is only a penny less than it was, now $2.169.
I will hold off filling up for a day though because I spotted $2.099 just down the road whilst running last minute errands late last night so hopefully I'll see a 7 cent drop at my local this morning...
... otherwise I shall go sulk in a quiet corner. .

I used to get about 31-32 mpg (UK) from my 1.6 Sierra, 29mpg (UK) out of my '89 3.0 V6 Alfa, and I get about the same (25 mpg, US) from my '02 V8 Mustang. As far as I am concerned the correlation between engine size and fuel economy is not obvious.

My wife drives a manual diesel VW beetle over here in Washington state , diesel is roughly $2.47 a gallon here at the moment (Washington has extra tax on fuel compared to the rest of the states) and it's still really nice to get 50mpg on a run as at the end of the day I still have to work to put the diesel in it (wife only lets me drive the car when tank is below a quarter for some reason !)
