Even Petro Canada call themselves Canada's gas station.

Canada’s Gas Station — Petro-Canada

Since gas has went over 1.00 liter back in 2008 or so all non-essential driving has been cut, we no longer take leisure trips and we are not alone, people take shorter and shorter trips as gas goes up and the price becomes too high to afford leisurely car trips.

At current prices, driving is more expensive most of the time vs flying, I can't for example drive to San Diego from my area cheaper then flying anymore, so I fly now, good for the airlines, bad for the hotels and other services who relied on people traveling through who now fly point to point.

There a months when we spend more on gas then on food.

Don't people get confused between gasoline and gas that heats your home?

Nonsense. You don't need to be 'rich' to consider the price of petrol here cheap.
See: BBC News - Fuel price calculator: How much do you pay?

The US has the cheapest petrol in the (developed) Western hemisphere by a *considerable* margin. Only Nigeria and Venezuela have cheaper fuel.

But when people set budgets for things they set them for the country they live in, right?

Sure, but to suggest that a tank of petrol here in the US is ever going to 'cripple' you, is - to a European at any rate - frankly ridiculous.

Plus, Americans are paid more than Europeans.

Yea good point to be fair I suppose 'cripple' is a bit strong! Maybe it would hurt your wallet a bit more but not cripple!

Agreed. Though, don't get me wrong, I always wince at the price of petrol in California as I'm used to (much lower) New England prices, but even then I remember how expensive fuel is in Britain compared to CA.

Though, I suppose there is definitely the argument to be made that given European cars get far better mpg than their US counterparts, the difference isn't as vast as the headline sticker price implies.

That is definitely true, most the engines I've heard in the few days I've been here are V engines and I'm driving around a V8 myself! But I think hybrids and diesels are slowly taking off here?

I guess it all depends on ones budget, with a tank of gas still costing over $80 every trip we take has to be planned and budgeted.

Anyhoo, still no change here $3.08 locally

There's a really quick fix to that. Don't drive ridiculously exorbitant gas guzzlers. I have zero sympathy for people that drive incredibly inefficient vehicles then whine about petrol costs.

Not even remotely. US vehicles still decades behind European ones. The new VW Golf launched here doesn't even have the 1.4 TSI engines. Minimum is a guzzler 1.8TSI which something stupid like 200bhp. Totally unnecessary. But Americans don't grasp the concept that small engine can == fast and efficient engine.

MPG does not seem to be part of the US vocabulary.

But then when was the last time you got a 4x8 in the back of your Pious ? I use my vehicle for work which usually means I am moving lots of bulky materials around, in my case a dinky little hybrid just won't do what I need it to.
This trip we have to take the big guy and the trailer as we are picking up our new kitchen. We are still saving big on delivery charges and thankfully the gas downstate is cheaper than it is here so our return trip cost less.

Love how people are so judgemental :\

That's OK since HH also thinks that people that don't buy most expensive products are dumb.
