One thinks some days that Israel being removed from the face of the planet would make life in the Middle East a lot more peaceful.

A bit but not much. The various factions of muslims in the Middle East are quite busy killing each other in Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Egypt, and Libya, and occasionally in Iran and Saudi, without any assistance from Israel.

Even 2-5 years ago, I doubt Israel had the firepower to do much damage. Iran's nuclear facilities are all deep inside mountains and doubt that anything short of nuclear weapons would do much damage. Even US bunker bombs won't go more than a few feet into a mountain and when there are several hundred or possibly thousands of feet of mountain between the outside world and the facility, bombing won't be much more than a slight inconvenience.

We'd like to think that we have weapons that can target the entrance and get into the facility but that is more science fiction than fact. We may be able to damage the entrances but within a few days, it'll be back open.

A few mines in the Strait of Homuz would do it.

Oft talked about, but never done. It would be an act of war that would bring down the full wrath and fury of the US.

I was thinking more about attacking the technology and equipment before it was put deep underground.

That was much longer than 5 year years ago. They started their nuclear program early in the Bush administration.

Then they would have had to have been intelligence as to where the equipment was and I doubt that Iran reported that in the newspapers.

WTI closed slightly above $78 and Brent slightly above $84 today.

The Euro is also down to $1.24.

We still have at least one outlier. Ran home at lunch and the petrol station just outside of town is still at $3.29, while all the others I pass are at $2.97-$2.99.

The Japanese consumer has only been seeing price increases at the pumps.
