Take a look at the history of the winners of the elections of 1840, 1860, 1880, 1900, 1920, 1940, 1960. All seven died in office. [The only other president to die in office was Zachary Taylor, elected in 1848].

Ronald Reagan, elected in 1980, survived the attempt on his life.
