Practical training and re-entry

My friend has just graduated and has a year's practical
training. His EAD came through last week. He has yet
to find a job, however. My question is - will he have
problems getting back into the US after a short holiday
in the UK if he does not have a job to return to? Or is
the EAD combined with his endorsed I20 sufficient?
Does anyone have any experience with this?
