power outages / out of area crews
If the crew working on restoring power in your area is not local (the trucks are usually a different color) be sure they know you are out of power. During Isobel we along with millions of others lost power. The crew who repaired the power lines misread the map and thought we connected to another line and left us and a neighbour without electricity. I called in to no avail and had to go to the Farmville office of Virginia Power to resolve the situation. A few people in the Richmond area had similar problems. It was not widespread but when everyone else has power and you do not it is not much fun.

We're kind of lucky in that our town owns the local power company, so they've been really good about getting things sorted.
Where we used to live, it was nStar and they were bloody crap
