Default Pound / Dollar .... the big Bang

As previously predicted, this thing is shot. Relatives will be headed to the USA for some great bargains. Anyone wanting to send US$ home, better do it soon.....

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/4772049.stm

I predict $2 to the pound by August..... I predict interest rates up another percent by year end... or real close.

The USA debt is worse than bad.................

Bring it on the more it falls the more competitive the US becomes. The biggest losers are the Asian economies with vast reserves of dollars.

For those of us who are either sending money home or (as in my case) going back to the UK and therefore changing our hard earned wealth into GBP, I hope you are wrong.

It's buggered us over already, federal loans for this years tuition for the missus, by the time they wrote the cheque, got it to us to send to Kings, the amount ended up falling £100 short...arse cakes...

Good News / Bad News

The exchange rate was about $1.9 (I think) to the GBP when we first came over here and we had a lot of debt in England it was very nasty. It was the exchange rate coming down to a more controllable level that allowed us to pay off our debt in England.

As we now have some money coming to us from English sources. From my own standpoint, at this time, the prospect of $2 to the GBP is a good thing.

Although I can completely understand why some people are not happy about it.

Yeah, like visitors to the UK.... tourism is not an insigificant source of revenue for the UK and "Ugly Americans" will find it harder to travel there.

I don't think UK goods are overpriced, not if you live there, earn GBP, get NHS, etc. but for the tourist it is ridiculous.

If your round trip commute was over 50 miles in 5 mph traffic you might feel differently. (That's my commute and $3 in gas doesn't help make up for the lost time.)

I've been hearing this the past two years, particularly when we were moving to the US and had pounds to exchange. It will be interesting to see if it does hit $2 and then that will be me wishing we could have cashed in on that nice little windfall. Oh well, its only money.
