Default Postage/Customs Charge for non-gifts

Hi guys

I'm a little confused how the rules work around non-gifts (i.e. items I already own) being shipped to me from the UK. I'm talking about a few items of clothes, sent from my parents house.

Any idea how the process works in this instance when it comes to duty etc?

Thanks

I don't know for sure, but pretty certain that used clothes are not going to attract customs fees if posted, anymore than they would if they had been in your suitcase when you arrived.

Personal items being moved, should in theory be duty free if all the proper forms are filled out and such.

Go to the US Customs website, and they will have the information and forms you will need.

My cousin left a pile of clothes in his drawer when he went home to UK after a visit. When I packaged it up, I seem to remember I ticked 'other' on the customs box and wrote something like 'returning clothes left while on vacation by recipient', I put in a value of $2 per item of clothing and they were delivered with no hold ups or problems.
