Is it possible to live in the USA??
Hi all
Sorry if this has been done to death, please bare with me. Im looking at emigrating with my family, possibilities are Australia, NZ and Canada however my ideal would be the USA. I have travelled to the US a lot on holidays and absolutely love the place but it seems impossible to move there without a wedge of cash to invest (which unfortunately I don't have), a green card (which seems that as an Englishman is impossible to obtain) or work for a multi national company who would send me there (which I do not). If I had money to buy a business then I would happily do this.
Just wanting to know if there is any possibility or is it a complete no go? I am an Electrician turned Firefighter (where I have a specialist skill in USAR, Urban Search And Rescue, which I know the Americans are daft for) and the bread knife is a Secondary school teacher.
Thanks for your time.
Regards
Jamie

This is what you should read.

It's the truth and if you don't fall into one of those categories, then it's probably a no go. Sorry.

Doesn't look likely, enjoy your holidays. They are lot easier than living here.

Short answer: No.
But if you have niche skills, that opens up opportunities. Though they really would need to be niche skills.
If you've a family, I wouldn't want to risk money on a investment visa.

If you have a job skill that is in short supply here in the States, but you won't know until you apply. So if you want to live in the States throw the dice and see what happens. Putting in an app won't cost much if any. Electrician may be more feasible than a Firefighter. Contact the States with low unemployment rates.
What visa do you think he'd qualify for as an electrician?

None of the the three skills/ occupations the OP and his wife have between them are visa eligible. Aside from that minor inconvenience, there are plenty of examples of people who already have a visa, including myself, who couldn't get any interest from prospective employers while they were outside the US. Your advice is at best unhelpful and arguably misleading when the OP effectively has no hope for a visa.

Do you know anything about immigration to the US? Or do you just enjoy posting complete twaddle?

Re: Is it possible to live in the USA??
Aside from the minor inconvenience of having no hope of moving to the US, why is it that people think they would have a 'better life' by moving to a completely different country?
I'm referring to the fact that the OP wants to move to the US OR Australia OR New Zealand OR Canada!
As anyone who's done it will tell you, it's not easy, and living in a different country is a LOT different to spending a fortnight at DisneyWorld!
I'm always amazed at the complete blindness of posts like this one. After all, the research you'd do in moving from, say, London to Manchester would be huge, but to move into a completely different world takes a post on an Ex-Pat forum!!

Maybe media always knocking Britain and implying almost anywhere is better? My Mum is constantly parroting such things.
