Possible credit history from 8 years ago?
Hi - I could soon be moving to LA on an L1 visa. One of many concerns is the obvious lack of credit history.
However 8 years ago I worked in the US for ~9 months (back and forth on the VWP). I lived in rented accomodation and had a bank account with Wells Fargo which my UK company transferred my rent into.
Is there any way I could possible use this to give me a step up on the credit rating?

If you have a Social Security number, you have a credit history of some kind.

I do not have a SSN - I was paid from the UK into a UK account.
The only purpose of the US account was to transfer funds to pay rent.
From reading this forum I am surprised that I was able to open a US account without a SSN - all I used was my passport as ID/reference.
So without a SSN will there be no credit history?

It was more common in the past that an SSN was not needed to open a bank account. most banks have changed policy since 9/11 but it's possible to open an account without an SSN.
As for building credit quickly, I see several good threads running now, and there is an article in the wiki that has lots of ideas.

The above would contribute to creating a credit score.

Having a bank savings or check account, no credit card and no SSN will not give you a credit score.

Read the wiki, it's got good info on finance...
But no credit card wouldn't get you credit history...plus it's also about current history...
Utilities will only report you not paying and ding your score, they don't boost it.
Having worked here whilst of VWP, that's iffy, you probably should mention that to the lawyer dealing with the L1 to see what they say in case you get FUBAR'ed.
