Overall probably it is, that is if you have the money Think they were talking more about taxes re housing and housing etc ? as shopping seems to be the same price anywhere round here. So if you look at rent and can afford it here, you'll be OK.

I'm glad you like it here. We have our unique way of doing things but on the whole we are a great nation. You are free to live your life as you see fit and that's what counts at the end of the day, isn't it

i have been and stayed in seattle more times than my mums cooked me hot dinners, and every time i am there, it's always a fantastic place to be.
as someone here says, its great for nightlife (sometimes the wrong type , but you can always have a whale of a time there.
and what about the rain? well, i ahve never seen it to be as bad as everyone goes around crying! ok, there IS rain in seattle, but look at the positive side--thats why it has the only rainforest in the whole of the northern hemisphere (olympia national forest).

I've been to Maine for the autumnal color-changing spectacle from Kennebunkport and up the coast to Bar Harbor. Portland (Maine) has been picked as one of the best places for relocation, but development is now being geared towards the wealthy or people in the lower income bracket. The main plus side for the city is that it is on East coast and close to Europe. I didn’t look into the university situation there, which is important for my future plans (as good ones foster eclectic and interesting neighborhoods).

And I know about the flies, the humidity, the abundant snow, the parking, the cold, the mud season, and the stereotypical Mainer, so at the moment Portland (Maine) is on the bottom of my “best places” list.
Well I highlighted the best of Maine for uni, really is forestry and nursing, anything else and it's a tad shite....Portland, plenty of decent private schools, and some okay ones there too. As for visiting, it's vastly different living here, it really does get humid in summer, and tourists are a major pain in the area...as for income bracket, well BoA just shut all but one site in the state, not site closures, but a business decision to change course is what there saying, so basically about 3000 people out of work across the state on March 10th.

On the plus, there are some quality pubs and restraunts, as well as health stores.

I have been to plenty of old country historic places which are very well cared for and have lived in a older place in Virginia, so just because it's country does not mean that it has to have parts that are run down. And just because I observe that it is slightly rundown you can not read into that, everything that you did
Maple Valley isn't bad. Especially if you're commuting. They've got a good school district. Probably just a shade under pricey though. But if I had my choice between Kent and Maple Valley - I'd choose Maple Valley.
