Poppy Appeal 2013
Hi Folks,
I've got the Poppy tin out for another year - a bit more prepared this time round instead of the last-minute rush like last year.
If you'd like a Poppy (or a number of poppies) please PM me and let me know. I'll give you a contact address to send a donation (last year $2 a poppy seemed about the right mark, but whatever you can afford is fine).
If you can include an stamped SAE that would be a big help as postage costs will come out my own pocket - 100% of donations will go in the tin.
All proceeds are sent to the Royal British Legion 1st Florida Branch. Thanks!!

Use a padded envelope to, because even taken apart, they tend to rip apart the envelope.
Anyway, folks in Boston, can pick up a few from the Brit Consulate, but they tend to go quite quick.
I just donated a couple bucks to three local VFW folks and a contact at the consulate sent me a couple.

Thank you for doing this. It was a big tradition my grandmother instilled in me (granddad died in a WW2 PoW camp). She passed just as I emigrated. It is nice to be able to keep the tradition alive.
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly.
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Re: Poppy Appeal 2013
I typically pay about 10 pounds for a poppy each for my wife and I. My parents send them over from the UK but i have also seen them in the George and Dragon pub in Phoenix.
I don't bother getting any for my american born children although i do explain the reason why we wear them.
Does anyone with British born children here send their kids to school with a poppy on? I wonder if it is even allowed?

Last year I also bought some poppy jewelry and gave it as Christmas presents to a couple of members of my family, and got myself a poppy to put on my charm bracelet.

A UK based pal sent me out some poppies to NZ last year so I was able to distribute them among BritExpats in and around our village. Some of the elderly were so pleased.
