I just read this on the BBC website:

Interesting commentry of British/American relations.

I didn't realise people who were friendly with Black people in the South during the 50s were considered communist.

Well that would be that whole fountainhead of the KKK-if you were friendly to a black person (in the sense you elevated them to the same level as yourself) then you were most likely a pinko Jew commie or some such vitriolic combination.

Here's another article about the programs writer - Harold Evans - and points out that his program is supposed to run for only 13 weeks, which is what they said to Alistair Cooke.
