PLEASE ANY ADVICE, TEACHING?
Hi I hope you will be able to help me with the following: I have always wanted to live and work in the USA, my Aunt, Uncle and 3 Cousins all live there and I try to visit as often as I can - I love the life they have etc. I am looking at a career change to be able to realise my dream - is Teaching a good way to go? Any other suggestions? I have started an apprenticeship as a pipe fabricator in a shipyard but am not sure it is going to get me there. I am 24. I am willing to work hard. I would really appreciate any input. Thank you for looking. :confused::confused:

Welcome to BE....read the wiki on the ways in...and unless your able to teach at a uni, realistically sounding your chances are slim to none...especially as a navvy.
Working hard doesn't mean much either....good luck. |

Forget teaching. Have a read of this article to understand how you can get a visa for the US - http://britishexpats.com/wiki/Pulask...ork_in_the_USA Put simply, you'll need to do a degree (and preferably a masters too), work hard in a specialised field and try and get there in about a decades time via either a company transfer or a job offer. Think of it as a long term plan and start working towards it. Good luck. :) |

The problem with teaching is that 95% of the 'sponsors' for a visa are government entities (schools) which have neither the resources to sponsor (the approximately $5,000 per person) nor the political will to sponsor (why aren't you giving this government job to an America!?!). Some private schools may sponsor, technically, but from what we've heard they are extremely rare cases. University will occasionally sponsor a visiting professor, but that's generally at the PhD level or above. Easiest way to get here? Marry a yank (an in jest answer but not without a bit of truth to it) |

Not to mention, visa's are given out in October, a month after schools start their academic year
