Re: Physiotherapists and Nurses in USA
i'm a uk trained physio leave me a private message and i will see what i can find out for you.
i dont believe it is that hard to come here as a pt. you do need a sponser though (an employer) there is a major shortage of both pts and nurses here. I came via florida and took the liscensing exam there but am currently working in michigan. you need to have an entry level degree equivalent to a usa degree which is a masters degree at the moment. but they look at your education as our A levels count as 1 year of college. anyway as i said send me a private message and i will see what i can find out for you |

Re: Physiotherapists and Nurses in USA
I've been out of the loop for a while and I didn't realize that there are no visas for nurses....wow, that sux! I can't imagine why they'd do that....there's still a nursing shortage. I came over in 2003 and even though it was fairly straightforward for nurses back then it still took me two years to get a visa. Got to say I feel very lucky to be in Healthcare in the US right now....it's pretty much a recession-proof industry. I feel kind of like the horse that made it into the stables before they locked the gate! :)

there is a new bill out: The Emergency Nursing Supply Relief Act (H.R. 5924) has been introduced in the House and, if passed, would provide visas for properly qualified registered nurses to work in the United States |
Re: Physiotherapists and Nurses in USA
Here's more from back in 2006
RETROGRESSION: THE END OF FOREIGN NURSES IN THE U.S.? THE PROBLEM The Department of State has just announced that, as of October 2006, the “EX†visa category for Registered Nurses and Physical Therapist immigrant visas (green cards) will expire. Once the EX visa category expires, RN’s and PT’s green card applications will be lumped into the “general†EB3 visa category with accountants, engineers, IT computer programmers, and other common professional occupations. The EB3 category is backlogged, or “retrogressed,†for five years. A hospital that sponsors a fully-qualified nurse in 2006 will have to wait until 2011 until that nurse is eligible for a visa. This five year back-log will essentially end the supply of foreign-trained nurses and physical therapists into the United States. This will have grave consequences on this country’s healthcare system because nurses and physical therapists are in extremely short supply. Indeed, the U.S. Department of Labor has only found two occupations to be in such dire national short supply – Registered Nurses and Physical Therapists.[1] These “Schedule A†occupations have been the only two occupations designated as such in 15 years. http://hammondlawgroup.blogspot.com/...nurses-in.html |
Re: Physiotherapists and Nurses in USA
Even with new bill as I understand it is only for a certain time and certain amount 20,000 a year. Much harder now to get visa, in fact we gave up and hubby got a job in Canada and I am just starting the process to register as a nurse in Canada. Also seeing less and less employers willing to petition foreign nurses due to not knowing when they are going to get visa and work.
