I'm not even sure how I did it this time; I always get nervous and ramble at interviews. I can only assume I impressed the CFO with my technical savvy, and it was down to the fact that the rest of the interviewers were women and I'm, well, me - they're only human after all.

How annoying that it was so close but it sounds like good things will be in store soon.

As fine an example of self-promotion as one could hope to find. You should write one of those how-to books for job seekers.

Oh I might come across all Lord Flasheart on here, but trust me, if I tried that in person, interview or not, I'd be 100% Lieutenant George.

The whole self-deprecation thing that we do is a big mistake here.
The cultural difference is stark, modesty was valued in the UK, self-promoters were suspected of being blowhards; over here, a stated and repeated desire for a job or promotion is a necessary qualification. It then makes sense to list the reasons why they should hire/promote you.

The big thing in maintaining contact is to be cheerful and above all, positive.
