Basically, many interviews in the USA are not a a-b-c-d test of what qualifications or experience you may or may not have, but more a test of 'will this person work in the office environment we have'--is this person a good 'cultural fit' for our office.
In a sense, the interview is kind of like a first date. If you come across as a bad fit you won't get the job no matter how good your qualifications.

There wasn't any agreement among the group on which interviewee would fit in best because everyone had different criteria.
