Philadelphia
As a Brit New Yorker of 6 months I'm off to a business meeting in Phildelphia soon. Decided to use the opportunity to see the city over a weekend with my wife...
Anyone like to tell me a few of their favourite places or things to do...
Will reciprocate with my New York tips...
Cheers

I've only been there on day trips (Philly is about 75 miles South from where I live in northern NJ ....spouse works in Times Sq, NYC) but I definitely recommend that you go on one of the trolley tours - we took my mum and she loved it - ....it takes you all around the city and a guide points out all the places of interest...you go into the old tree-lined streets with cobblestones and it reminded me of being in England. Philly is a very pretty city.
You can glean loads of info on Philly (as well as comments on the hotels there) on my favourite travel website:

Re: Philadelphia
Hi,
My fiancé lives in Philly and I regularly go there to visit. Philly is a fantastic city and really under-rated. I highly recommend you do the following:
Rather than going on the trams I would use the Double Decker bus which has been shipped over from England. Check out http://www.bigbus.co.uk/phila/html/phila_home.html
Of course there is the Liberty Bell with its famous crack and bad spelling. And Independence Hall is well worth a visit but get ready for some Brit bashing (the bigbus will drop you off here).
The art museum is fantastic. I have been there lots of times and especially enjoyed the audio tour. The European galleries are excellent. There is just too much to see in a day (the bigbus will drop you off here).
Another great museum is the Franklin Institute. They have amazing exhibits. It is a bit like the Science museum in London. At the moment they have an exhibit on the titanic. I was there last month. They have lots of artefacts recovered from the Titanic and let you do stuff like touch an iceberg and the hull of Titanic. They cover the story really well and cap it all off with an IMAX film.
The Eastern State Penitentiary is well worth a visit. Their website is http://www.easternstate.org (the bigbus will drop you off here). The prison is close by to where some scenes in the movie Sixth Sense were filmed.
The USS New Jersey is a Missouri Class Battleship built to avenge Pearl Harbour. You can get tours all over this amazing ship. The website is http://www.battleshipnewjersey.org (the bigbus will drop you off here). I did the firepower tour where they show you all the weapon systems but you can get a more cut down tour.
The previous post about Cheese steaks is spot on. They are amazing. Check out Pats - http://www.patskingofsteaks.com.
If you get sick of the city jump on the speedline and head out to Haddonfield/Collingswood. These are two beautiful historic towns. Collingswood has some great restaurants. I also recommend Pompeii in central Philly - http://travel.yahoo.com/p-travelguid...philadelphia-i There is a great English pub too called the Dark Horse - http://www.dickensinn.com/flashIndex.php They regularly show soccer and rugby. Another great spot for food is the Reading Market.
Have a great time in Philly.
Andy
