PG Tips Tea Bags - can I bring them in
We spend 4-6 months a year in our Florida home. We are happy to go American on most things but we do like " A Nice Cup of Tea'. Even the Twinnings English Breasfast tea cannot match PG Tips. I know of a number of sources to buy PG tips in Florida but it is horribly expensive and my husband drinks loads of it. I realise the suppliers have importation costs. So I thought I would brings a few large packs over with me.
But.....is it leagl. Does anyone know if it is acceptable to US Customs to bring in tea bags? I will probably come into Orlando.
It's a relatively warm day in South of England today, I've even got a line of washing flapping in the wind.

yes, usually
Make sure the boxes of tea are still wrapped in their original cellophane outer wrapping. Items get confiscated if the packages are open, or if its a meat, dairy or similar product.
Tea, in its factory wrapping, is usually allowable.

I'll never forget the time I tried to take a home made Christmas pudding through customs at Auckland airport. Whilst I got through in the end, I think I would have had a better initial reaction if I'd been carrying anthrax.

Had no problem bringing a couple of boxes of PG into Atlanta back in December. However, I did put the boxes in the main suitcase and not in hand luggage.

Transported somewhere in the region of 8kg of loose leaf tea and nearly 1000 teabags (all PG of course) last time we came back. We had one suitcase that only contained tea. I find the inspectors are more worried about Brits who don't import tea.

Oooh, Britfrombristol -we stopped in Tupelo last Easter -a slight detour on our Tennessee road trip. Is it a nice place to live? Seemed very quiet and pleasant.

Shouldnt be a problem. My mum and her friend bought me over 500 tea bags back in september. Although I wouldnt advise taking the bags out of the original boxes and putting them in a Tesco bag as my mums friend did. Her one case with the tesco bag full of tea had to go for extra checks we think, as they told her she couldnt pick it up at the international baggage claim with her other bag and she was escorted through the airport into the arrivals area where her bag came out on one of the domestic baggage claim areas. She didnt seem too clear on why they did this to one of her bags and not the other, but she thought it was because it may have looked like she had a bag full of weed.

Monster,
You kinda summed up Tupelo pretty well with quiet and pleasant.
Definately one of the nicest small towns in MS with some nice residential neighbourhoods. But apart from that there isn't much to do but go to the mall, cinema or eat out. Culture can only be found in the local hospital's laboratory.
Tupelo is just a stepping stone as my in-laws are putting us up as we only recently moved over.
Oh yeah there are also alot of churches in the area-lots!

Looks like I will be off to Sainsburys tomorrow for the PG Tips. Nice try Ray, thanks you reminded me to put a few packets of Hob Knobs in, the thickly coated chocolate hob knobs, just right for dunking in a nice cup of tea. I'm guessing your method of destruction would have been oral.

Just this past Christmas, my husband (American, by the way) brought 9 boxes of Sainsburys Gold Label teabags (160 in each box) in his luggage from London to the US. No problems whatsoever except for some dented corners on the boxes.

I must bring half of Tesco's back with me every year I go home. Not entirely sure what is allowed and what is not. I know about the whole meat and dairy thing but never had a problem with anything else. Most of my case is filled with cadbury's chocolate in as many forms as possible, oat cakes, christmas puddings, horlicks, jelly's (what's up with this powdered crap you get here), ahhhh bisto, treacle and other baking goodies, and of course the essential teas ... has to last me a whole year it does
