Humph.
I'd read a couple of posts on BE about how great Peter Kay was and that Phoenix Nights was brilliant.
We bought the DVDs of series 1 & 2 and my husband and I just sat there wondering when it was going to get funny. We just didn't get it at all..... Maybe it's because we're not Northerners and just don't get it?
We also bought the TV comedy series of 'Spaced' and 'Teachers' and didn't think they were that great either. (However, the 'Spaced' actors were in the movie 'Shaun of the Dead' and I loved that).
The only British comedy I've enjoyed in the past few years is the "League of Gentlemen" (but only the first two series, then it went off the boil), "The Office" and "Have I Got News for You".

I guess it will be to do with the northern humour.
DH and I have just this week watched the "Peter Kay Thing", the (precursor to Phoenix Nights) and laughed our socks off. He is USC but gets it cos he has lived in the North.
If you ever went to a Working Men's club you would see his observations are very accurate, so much so he was sued by one of the people he based a character on. You need to go up north lass
