No complaints, does everything they want it to (burn CD's) I just wish I'd spec'd a DVD burner in the package but never gave it a thought at the time. After Christmas maybe.

centrino isn't a chip for starters, but the pentium M CPU itself is excellent
pretty much as fast as the athlon 64 clock for clock, run very cool
the only thing its not that great at is overclocking, which the A64 is. (not a consideration for the OP)
and not many places sell them in a desktop format yet

Athlon 2200 at present (Probably be upgrading it in the near future but still going to stay with Athlon).
I had a Celeron in my old computer and it dragged really bad. I upgraded everything in the computer before deciding that it had to be the processor.

For future-proofing, AMD are the way to go at the moment. Intel doesn't yet have a 64bit system out and next year supposedly Microsoft will release Windows Vista which is a 64bit operating system.
I just built my own computer and based it on an AMD 64x2 3800+ (dual-core processor) which is probably way over the top for most things but great for serious multi-tasking, gaming, CAD and video/digital image editing. Added 2Gb PC3200 RAM..the thing just flies

we have windows Vista now - Dell are currently shipping units with it pre-installed.
If the OP doesn't want to build their own then I would recommend going with Dell, good service, good backup and good machines.

Rubbish - Intel home level (not including Itanium enterprise offerings) cpus have had 64-bit support since the beginning of the year
