Which passport should be stamped?

We’re flying back to the UK for Christmas and since we moved I’ve got a new passport. I know I have to travel with this and my old passport as that has the visa in it, but does it matter which passport border control stamp when I re-enter the US?

The CBP officer will decide which to stamp, and most likely it'll be the new one as the old will no longer be valid, although as you say the visa in it still will be.

Practice has been to place the stamp in the new passport with a notation of "VIOPP." ("visa in other passport")
