Passport Renewal Questions

Hi my passport expired in July this year. When I apply for a renewal as it has already expired do I need to send my original birth certificate or any other documentation? Thank you

Why didn't you just renew it in July when you first asked about it?

or in September when you asked again?

Re: Question for Dean

Ian, My husband has been unemployed for over a year and we live on $1400 per month as they take 25% of his unemployment for child support. I am disabled, in pain 24/7 and have never worked here so I do not receive anything myself. I wanted to apply on both occasions but have not had the money. We were hoping that we would be able to borrow the money to renew it but no such luck. We are 3 months in arrears with all utilities and so getting the $200 together has been impossible. I have had my tv cut off and electric and water will be next.I have not asked the question regarding the birth certificate before and have read that if your passport has expired then you need to send your birth certificate as it is treated like a first application. I am now going to have to sell my washing machine and tumble dryer in order to pay for it as my husband unemployment will be cut off the 2nd week of January and we will be homeless. I did not wish to vent but I found you to be terribly rude and your comment un called for and to be honest it has really upset me as I am in a terrible situation right now. As I write this I have $6 to last me until next Saturday when his unemployment cheque arrives. I do not want to run the risk of my application being rejected as I simply cannot afford it.

No you don't...be sure to send your old UK PP with your application.

Fair enough! A new UK passport will cost $230 ($218 + $12 postage), so unless you're planning on using it immediately upon receipt to return to the UK perhaps you might want to consider using the money for something else. That said, if you need to travel urgently, you can get permission to travel even with an expired passport.

I may need to leave urgently and I am concerned about the wait. How and where can I get permission to travel with expired passport?

Google is your friend. Always go to the source: http://ukinusa.fco.gov.uk/en/help-fo...s/short-notice.
