Passport or driving license?
 

I'm here on an L1 visa, and am going on a trip later this year to Alaska. I'm taking domestic flights to get there, using US airports only I'm presuming I can use my Virginia driving license as ID and leave my passport at home. I'm trying to travel light, and could do without the hassle of keeping track of my passport all the time.

The only concern I have is in the unlikely event of something going wrong and having to travel back via Canada, would that then cause problems. I had thought that if I take a photocopy of my passport & visa & printout of latest I-94 then maybe that would be enough.

Am I being a bit optimistic? Should I take my passport anyway? I know it doesn't take up much space, but I get paranoid about its safety when travelling and the whole thing of is it safer in my backpack or locked in my suitcase at the lodge just causes me more stress than if I had it safely stored at home.

As an alien you are meant to have proof of your immigration status on you anyway, especially if away from your home city, however in practice your driver's licence should be enough.
