PAL/NTSC issues?

PAL/NTSC issues?
Sorry if this is a stupid question or has been asked before, but what is the score with the different TV systems? Will my UK TV not work out there? If not, is there some kind of adaptor available?
Cheers.

Re: PAL/NTSC issues?
You've got more problems than just that, the power supply is not only different vltage but also different current, then PAL/NTSC, there is no such thing as a SCART socket in the US, so got to get all new leads to plumb it all together....
As OiOi says...just not worth it. Sell it and buy a new one in the US.

See this thread about it http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=494494
A Wii isn't that expensive here if you think about all of the converter stuff you'll probably have to buy.

Anything PAL (TV's, Games Consoles, Computers) will NOT work in the US, without converters which tend to be very expensive, for this to work you need a scan doubler to convert the PAL signal to NTSC.
Your only hope is the TV you have has dual frequencies, both PAL and NTSC, which some do. As has been said, you would also need a separate power transformer, so yes its possible, but a lot of expense and hassle, when you could pick up the same product here pretty cheap.

Re: PAL/NTSC issues?
Higher end sets generally can display NTSC but only via SCART or component - NOT via the antenna/aerial input.
SCART is a European standard and equipment sold here does not use SCART. You will need to bring a myriad of SCART -> Phono/RCA adapters.
You will invariably need to purchase a voltage converter, for a TV set look to spend $100. You can buy them here.

Sell it and buy a new one in the US. It's not worth shipping it over.

Must admit we sold the UK Wii and bought one here, second hand price there just about covered the new console here.

Re: PAL/NTSC issues?
if its a new TV then you will be able to use it via the HDMI cable which doesnt have a PAL/NTSC issue - check the power label as it may well be dual voltage.
In that case your Wii will work but you wont be able to use any games you buy here.
The answer is yes it can and will work over here - depending on circumstances it may be easy or you may need to faff with converters.
Unless its worth a lot or someone else is paying shipping then leave at home - they are cheap here
