Default PAL Friendly TVs?

Hi everyone,

New member here and something of an odd duck (US person being kicked out of England under the new visa laws and moving back).

Anyhow, during my time here, I've kinda bought a lot of DVDs, mostly of old TV shows, and now that I have to go back to the US, I'm looking for a multistandard TV that can actually play them without requiring an NTSC conversion. Getting a region free player that'll output in PAL isn't a problem, but finding a TV that will cleanly take the input (especially over HDMI) is, and I'd rather not have to pay a premium for grey market and risk not having a warranty.

Any suggestions or help? I'm looking for something in the 32" range if possible.

Thanks a tonne.

Why would you want to seek out a region-free player that outputs in PAL, in a land full of NTSC TVs? It looks like you are creating a problem and then trying to solve it.

Just buy the cheapest, regular DVD player you can find on a hack list on the internet. Problem solved!

I get easily annoyed by the ghosting and aliasing artifacts that come from standards conversions. Once you start to spot it, it's hard to ignore on other discs. Ergo I prefer to watch everything in native res/fps.

If you don't get any joy here, try asking in The Lab. Good luck.

A dvd player out putting HDMI?

You won't spot it. You really won't.

Get an upconverting DVD player, then it should be miss all the PAL to NTSC conversion issues. At least in theory.

I have a media center PC that skillfully gets around it so no issues for me.

You're thinking too hard.

The vast majority of [current model] flat screen TVs in the US will play PAL without an issue.

I have a 2-year old Toshiba 40" LCD and a $40 Philips region free DVD player (with HDMI output) that I got from WalMart and I can watch every PAL DVD I own (original and DVD+/-R/RW) without a single issue.

There are a large number of DVD players which play PAL DVDs on US televisions.
http://www.codefreedvd.com/
Here's a start.
I am using an older Sammy HD950 th "hack" was to enter a 4 digit set of numbers.
This site is useful to check for such hacks on current players: http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks?dv...&Search=Search
