PAL capable USA TV's
 

i know that pal/ntsc tv's are available from specialised importers but i read some digital tvs here (maybe LCD's?) are PAL capable as standard.

anybody any ideas?

The Japanese make the best 'MultiSystem' TVs, you may get lucky and find some of these models in shops, rather than having to buy over the web:-

To my knowledge US brand TVs do not bother with PAL.

Are you looking to receive broadcast PAL signals? If you're just trying to watch UK DVDs then every DVD player I've come across can play both PAL+NTSC DVDs to either format TV.

it would be to watch pal discs. i have a region 3 player that outputs both ntsc and native pal (it also does ntsc>pal conversion for ntsc only tv) but for my next tv i was hoping to get one that did PAL also (my current one in ntsc only) so i can watch in 'real' pal rather than the converted signal.

With LCD TVs I think the more important point to look in the specifications is can it handle 50 and 60 Hz. You will also see that they are capable of handling 576i and 576p (PAL) as well as 480i and 480p (NTSC). Most US TVs only handle 480 lines.

I believe some of the bigger Philips sets handle everything and I'm sure other makes at various sizes might too. I think it's a case of trawling through the specs.

The above is my belief on the research I have done to date, but I am happy to be corrected.

Personally, at the moment, I'm using a Philips DVP5982 DVD player to do the conversion to NTSC.

This was correct pre-HD TVs - these are now 720 and 1080 so the issue not as relevant as a new US TV will be capable of at least 720

My Phillips flatscreen and Sony projection tv handle both.

Generally I rip all region encoding off of my DVDs and play them back via a computer interface to the TV. I have stuff I've bought in London, the US, and Hong Kong that all play back fine. I have a home server that stores all my DVDs digitally so I can call them up on any tv in the house, but I am a bit of a geek.
