Packet 4 - Medical & Exit interview query
Hi all,
We are waiting on the US embassy for a date to attend our exit
interview and medical prior to receiving (hopefully) our visa. What is
the purpose of the medical and is it similar to a normal UK medical
that maybe required for a new job? Also we have been told that at this
stage it is a formality by our sponsor (who stand to make a
considerable amount of money) and that we can give 90 days notice at
work in complete confidence. We are suspicious about this and think it
is a bit risky. Do they advise on the day etc?
Any help gratefully received.
Thanks

I would not give any notice, or quit anything, until you have your visa in hand. You never know when there will be a delay.
What form is has your sponsor filled out? The I-134 or the I-864? What visa are you getting?
Best Wishes,
Rene

Re: Packet 4 - Medical & Exit interview query
Rene, it appears that it is an I-140, does that make sense?
Presumably the blood is for checking on drug abuse, hep c, hiv etc,
would that be correct? What is the chest x-ray for???
BTW, my wife is a nurse and I will be going on the back of her visa so
whether that makes any difference to anything I have no idea.
Thanks for your help.

Re: Packet 4 - Medical & Exit interview query
Thanks Silverdragon, we have been waiting for our exit interview for
some while now and were told by the agency that we should have it some
time in September (this was in August). Have you any ideas on
timescales regarding interview to medical to actually having green
card? Our sponsors are being less than helpful, in fact they're been a
complete waste of space in a lot of respects and only seem intrested in
forcing positions that my wife doesn't want and areas that we said we
didn't want to live in. We've even considered dumping them and going
back to square one with a sponsor in the form of a hospital rather than
an agency.

I am going without the aid of agency just with a recruiter so atleast going where I want to go not where they want me to go.
Someone I know had her medicals a week ago and has just recieved an interview date for 21 Oct. You should get your passports back in 2 days after interview and then have 6 months I believe to activate it. At the embassy you have to pay I think £10 ish for courier service per passport
If my first hospital hadn't backed out I would be well on the way but they backed out so in July had to refile all over again so back to the waiting game. Atleast lawyer has got next lot of paperwork ready
May be expensive to dump them and restart all over again. Another nurse I know had trouble with her agency and she was looking to go else where and suddenly they found her a job exactley where she wanted so may be worth sticking to your guns
