Jay's work colleague is (trying) to recover from stage 4 colon cancer, he has had numerous surgeries and now has a colostomy bag, he refuses to give up his job and has a great attitude. He has had a few issues lately, one that requires him to have some sort of 'vacuum' stuck up his butt to suck out liquids. Poor guy!! Anyhoo, his Dr told him that he has to take off at least 4 months from work, because the home help services will NOT come to his home to change his dressings etc, if he is working!!

He realized he had no choice, so he arranged to do most of his work from home during this time. He was supposed to get the vacuum thing fitted on Monday, firstly his Dr office forgot to order what was required, but then after talking to the home help people, they are refusing to set up his service because the calls he made to them were from his office phone!! They do not believe he is or will stay home for the visits! He got so mad, he told them not to bother, now he plans on dragging himself to his Dr office every 3 days to get treatment. crazy if you ask me!....Those that really NEED the help have a hard time asking for or getting the help.
Flippin 'eck ! Why does WORK even come into this at all ? He should not be at work for both good personal and business reasons.

This person is seriously ill and should be pensioned off medical.... No question.

Many people have chronic conditions, and the prescription drug prices in the US are way higher than in other developed countries. Say you're a type 1 diabetic, you have to buy multiple types of insulin, test strips, syringes, etc. That can easily run you several hundred dollars a month.

He is a 30 yr A/D Military retired Civilian, very stubborn! I guess it's his choice as to his decision to carry on working, he hasn't been told by his military bosses that he has to give it up, he has recently been given a 100% disability through the VA, so he doesn't financially need to work, I think he has it in his head that if he stops working, he will just waste away. It's very sad, all his kids are active duty, his wife doesn't work, they could enjoy what time they have left together, but even after watching what we went through and what we are planning, he still thinks we are crazy for taking a risk and giving up Jays full time job....I guess unless we were in his shoes we just can't understand his attitude.

This is true, luckily Tricare covered all of Matthew's type 1 meds/supplies, but had he lived till he reached 23, his coverage would have ended as a dependant. I dread to think how much his insurance would have been after that time!

Unless you work with no women of child-bearing age, I would expect that significantly more than 3-5% of your colleagues are on prescription medication - birth control isn't over the counter.
